07-2Tim1:6

2 Timothy 1:6

2 Timothy 1:6 (NASB) – Renew Your Gift – And for this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

2 Timothy 1:6 (ESV) – 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,

Greek word: Anazpureō (to kindle afresh) literally means “to keep the fire alive,” to fan the embers into flame and not let them die out.  (Only used in 2 Tim. 1:6)

HOWEVER, “flame” is the English word that is given this Greek word Anazpureō.  However note that “Flame” is also used for two other Greek words at 8 different locations in the ESV version.

7 Times the Greek Word:   φλόξ  translated “phlox”

1 time Greek Word:  “πυρόω”  translated ‘pyroo’

Conclusion:  “Flame” is the “English” translated word but doesn’t give relay the true understanding of the “Greek” word  thus a “phrase” is used to provide the meaning of the specific Greek word used in this verse.

That Greek word was:

2 Timothy 1:6 (NASB) – Renew Your Gift – And for this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

2 Timothy 1:6 (ESV) – 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,

2 Timothy 1:6  (NKJV)  Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Please note that different translations apply a different phrase to explain the GREEK word.

Looking at other verses that used “flame” the Greek word was different;  The Greek Word:

Acts 7:30 (ESV) 30 “Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

Then in another verse the word “flame” used for still a different Greek word:   The Greek Word:

Ephesians 6:16 (ESV)  16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;
